Something flat to begin with

July 30, 2024 · bicycle travel

I’m currently taking a week off my day job and my real work of marathon training to do a 1 week highlights tour of Scotland and England with Prudhvi.

I wasn’t planning to do the whole live-blogging thing this trip, but I’ve just taken so many videos worth sharing that it won’t fit in a single post at the end! So I’m planning to compromise: write a bit every couple days of this tour. Also it gives me a chance to show off the videos I can now upload to this blog from my phone!

We flew up to Edinburgh and picked up our rental bikes. We caffeinated ourselves awake from the early morning flight and walked around the town center. But for most of the afternoon we just relaxed in a nice shaded spot at the foot of Holyrood Park, where we watched plenty of people hiking up the exposed hillside to Arthur’s Seat.

On Monday, the tour began with a passage to Glasgow along the canals. We set off pretty early, giving us time to fix various mechanical and biomechanical issues with the bikes along the way. At one point my rear rack kaboomed off my bike. They had assembled two of the support rods inside out.

The many bridges means many blind corners, good time to have a bell!
